I SURF, THEREFORE, I AM





In the article -I Surf, Therefore I Am-  ; the teacher whose name is Judith Levine, demonstrates that students do not use internet for their courses or homeworks. She points out that internet is used just for surfing by students. I think she has a point because as a student, I am also an internet user but I use internet mostly for surfing or playing games etc. So this is a serious issue and we should realise something. Internet is something we use mostly for fun, not for their education. Judith Levine also presses this point. She says internet has a great effect on students. Besides once they start using it, they can not leave it. Many students are becoming addicted to the Internet. They spend more and more time on playing computer games or just surfing on the net without any particular reasons. Accordingly, the time they spend on studying is automatically reduce, which in turns causes the lower academic achievement. Moreover, some of them go to the extreme, becoming serious internet addicts, and they even refuse to go to school as they cannot escape from the trap of internet. Another aspect is, internet hinders students from doing their homework or assigned task by their own. Thanks to internet, students can obtain the information they need with a great ease by simply clicking the button. However, this great accessibility to any kind of information can be abused. For instance, when students are given an assignment, what many of them do is just go on the websites or the blogs where the needed information  is posted, and drag, they copy and paste it without looking the text  thoroughly. Some students even download the material which someone else has already done and submit it as if it were their own work. So as we see internet is not a good helper for student but if used right, it has many information for everything …
