COLD WAR

With the finishing of World War 2, two big power appeared: USA and USSR. these strong countries are the main factor of cold war. USA was the leader of the western world and USSR was the leader of the communist eastern world. USA and other European countries created NATO and Soviet Union found Eastern Block. Cold War was dated 1947 to 1991. In this period there was great conflict between USA and USSR in terms of political and military. However, this two country never fought each other because ,at that time , the atomic bomb appeared and this two country have it and both were afraid and hesitated to use it. They didn t fought but there were always hot wars between other East and African countries. Cold War finished after the Soviet Union was came apart.

My favorite tv serial is person of interest.In the series, all the characters are playing their role perfectly. Mr. Finch design a machine to be able to know the terror attacks but the machine sees everything including crime.Government don t care about ordinary people so Mr Finch want to prevent the murder of ordinary people. He finds John who once a special military soldier and they start to work together.The machine give them a number that belongs a person who is about to murder. They find this person and try to protect him/her.However they work in secret , not with police or FBI or something different. But they have some friends who are  cops and they get information from these cops.

Because I come from Aydın and I am not used to this type of weather. But never mind I will get used to. I feel great especially psychological aspect. Because I’m at where I want to be. Today,there are lots of universities all around the world in my opinion,most of them aren't able to educate their students enough to find good solutions to the problems that they face

1. When ı first heard that ı had been accepted to Middle East Technical Unıversity, ı was disappointed. Because ı did not like Ankara as a city. But my opinions have changed over time dramatically. Because Middle East Technical Unıversity is really a different world in Ankara.

2.It has been only one month since I came here. But I got used to this environment. Because, first of all, people from all of ages in here respect to each other.

We can easily see this by watching TV,surfing on the internet or maybe just looking around us.Because there are many people getting graduated from different kinds of universities but they're not even able to know what's going on around them or they don't even try to find good ways to improve the countries yhat they live in.

                                           I BRAIN ODTU

The slogan i brain odtü looks like a good one.İt is interesting and different. İ like it but it is hinted and so it is difficult to understand. Maybe this makes it a good and different slogan.When i saw it first, i didn t understand what is mean .İt was so strange to me at that times but as the time pass, we see it everywhere and now it is a usual thing for me. When i learned the mean of this slogan, i liked it more because it reflect something that as if only the metu students have and can do something to make this slogan s  goal real.

İf it is asked me what could be the best slogan for metu, i would say 'new planet METU' . Because after high school we came here and we encounter a different life..

Journal entry 3: METU: an ideal university atmosphere?

In my opinion, an  ideal university , first , must be able to give its students the main requirements  of their departments.  It must enable students the appropriate environment to learn  , to study.  And the university must have the expert teachers in their field.  Besides these , the university also must be rich in social activities.  Because there are a lot of different type of students in universities and so there are a lot of different interest. To be able to meet these different  interests , an university must have a wide variety of social activities and sports facilities. There mustn t be any restrictions.  And  I think METU is a university that meet most of the needs of an ideal university. it  is already known that METU has a high level of education.  All the teachers and professors are experts in their field. And there is the environment that students can easily adapted and study. On the other hand METU gives the students so much opportunity to improve themselves in social activities, in sports.  So METU is for me an ideal university.  And all the student I think should be happy to be in this university.

 

Journal Entry 2

Being a student at METU maybe most students’ wish. Because it has a good reputation in Turkey.  And METU gained this good reputation thanks to its good education. And now we are a student of METU. At first I was very surprised because this university is very big and it took some time to learn, to discover university. But I always proud of to be her. But like many other things , there are always some advantage and disadvantage. For me, being a student at METU has a lot of advantages. For example, a student must be able to speak English and also must be able to use computers  whatever his/her department or faculty is. And there are so much social activities in this university. Each student can find an activity that he/she likes and friends that have the same idea. Especially if one is  interested in sports like me ,METU  is maybe the best university . There are so much kind of sport options here and this also makes METU a good university. METU’s location is also impressive for me. It is as if in a forest, away from the citie’s dirty air and noise. But all these can be disadvantage for some others. I think because METU has a large area, it is often difficult to reach to your destination. In my opinion transportation is the biggest problem. But this can be handled by time. All in all METU is a ideal university for me and I am happy to be here…
